Fishermen witnessed three incidents that caused Rs 5 million loss of costly nets and boats by the Trawler No 0008 and others.
Hardly 25 days back, the same trawler hit a boat owned by a local fisherman, Hanif, who claims Rs 1.5 million losses of the incident as the vessel tore costly nets and damaged wooden boat. While the other incident occurred near the Ormara beach in which Al-Shahak Boat was hit at night.
The boat owner said they faced Rs 1 million loss as costly fishing net was destroyed completely by the trawler.
The trawler owned by two Pakistani financers, Saulat Majeed and Kamran Majeed, who have license issued by the federal government, said Deedak.
When the trawler hit a local boat owned by Mumtaz, around 100 fish workers on 15 boats, who witnessed the incident followed the vessel to hunt the captain. They caught the vessel and asked the China-origin captain about the losses. However, after getting information from the captain, the fish workers returned home and approached the local influential to take action against the violators.
After complaints by victim fishermen the MSA director-general called a meeting on Saturday to discuss the issue in which trawler owners and fishermen representatives participated, but the owners of the trawler being influential could not realise the losses. Hence the meeting ended without any result.
"We have made several complaints to the authorities concerned, including the Maritime Security Agency (MSA) officials in Karachi, but all in vain. The violation by government-licensed factory vessels are common at our coasts, said FCS Director Saleem Deedak.
Pakistan Fisher folk Forum Chairman Mohammed Ali Shah said, "We have already been in struggle against the operation of trawlers, but the government agencies have issued licenses to these trawlers to destroy remaining fish reserves at the country coast and are reluctant to take action against these trawlers.
